Professionally I trained as a nurse and midwife in London before coming to the East Midlands. Here I undertook health visitor training and was awarded the MAWS/HVA award for innovative work in Health visiting practice, publishing in ‘Health Visitors and Groups-Politics and Practice’ 1988 ed. V. Drennan Heineman After working on the Community Development and Health project (joint Health & Social care initiative) I joined the Training Department supporting best practice in community health services, maintaining my clinical practice as a school nurse in the inner city.

I undertook Major Review for the QAA leading on the quality assurance of Nursing, Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (HV & SN), Community Specialist Practice Nursing (PN & DN) programmes and was the specialist lead for learning resources in academic and practice settings. In collaboration with higher education providers I have developed and commissioned innovative academic multidisciplinary education programmes.

Production of a suite of Child Health training packages, parenting resources and resources for schools led me into the development of e-learning programmes in the areas of Record Keeping, Use of Bedrails, Falls Awareness, Urinary Catheter Use and Management, Nutrition as well as bespoke e-learning programmes for Understanding Health Improvement (leading to the RSPH Level 2 award) as well as on-line learning for community Pharmacists.

Experience in providing Clinical Supervision and developing Clinical Supervision training I have had innovative techniques published in ‘Reflective Practice-writing and professional development’ 2000 ed. G. Bolton Sage.

I maintain my clinical skills in Public Health both in immunisation (child and adult immunisation) and working in the area of health improvement through MECC cascade programmes (health and local authority staff) as well as developing community Health Champions in all sectors.

I am currently the National Lead Trainer for the Royal Society of Public Health - Training Solutions, developing and delivering Health Improvement Programmes and Train the Tutor events.
